How are Aged Bronze and Polished Bronze made?

Both From The Anvil's Aged Bronze and Polished Bronze products are hand forged from solid bronze containing a minimum of 85% copper. During the final stages of manufacturing, a robust lacquer is applied to the products which helps protect and prolong the lifespan of each finish.

What's the Difference Between Aged Bronze and Polished Bronze?

The differences between these two finishes occur as a result of the manufacturing process. Polished Bronze products are aged and then repolished to create a subtle contrast between lighter surface areas and darker, more detailed parts of the product. A clear lacquer coating is applied to Polished Bronze to protect its bright shine. On the other hand, Aged Bronze products undergo an advanced ageing process which creates a dark, rich appearance. The subdued look of this finish is protected by a robust matt lacquer which gives the products their unique texture.

How to Style Aged Bronze and Polished Bronze

Polished Bronze products are warm and bright. They complement both light and dark painted wood, but are best accentuated by shades of green and blue which sit on the opposing side of the colour wheel. Pair with quality materials like marble and quartz to create a true feeling of luxury.

Aged Bronze products are dark and moody, which means they're best complemented by a lighter interior. Neutral shades and organic materials will complement this finish, but bright bursts of colour are a great way to make Aged Bronze products pop.

How to Maintain Aged Bronze and Polished Bronze

Both Aged and Polished Bronze products are regarded as low maintenance finishes. Because both are lacquered, there is no need to use Brasso, or any other cleaning products and in fact doing so may damage the lacquer.

Bronze products can be occasionally wiped over with a clean, microfibre towel to remove any dust or debris from the surface if required.

We would also recommend regular oiling of all moving parts with From The Anvil's 3-in-1 Oil (92337) as this is beneficial to the longevity of the products. Similarly, an oily cloth can be wiped over the product from time to time to aid protection against environmental elements.
