How do I fit a switch/socket?

Our switches and sockets are supplied with matching stainless steel screws which can be used to fix your product to the wall. Always consult a qualified electrician if you're planning to update your switches/sockets.

Can you change switches/sockets yourself in the UK?

Technically, you are allowed to update, replace, and fit new electrical switches/sockets yourself in the UK.

However, we don't recommend attempting this yourself without extensive electrical knowledge - it's always best to ask a qualified electrician to do this.

What type of switch/socket do I need?

First, determine whether you need a switch or socket (or a switched socket).
Switch: turns current on/off.
Socket: provides connection to an electrical power supply.
Switched socket: has both a switch and socket to provide connection to an electrical power supply which can be switched on/off.

Amp switched socket: standard switches used for table lamps, hairdryers, phone chargers and general electrical appliances which may require unplugging.
Amp switch: used for hardwired lights to switch them on/off.
Cooker switch: used primarily for cookers as a way to turn the appliance off during an emergency. Has a neon light which is only lit when the switch is on.
Switch + Neon: a standard amp switch with a neon light which is only lit whent the switch is on.
LED Dimmer Switch: a switch with a turnable knob which can be used to control the brightness of dimmable lights.
Fan Isolator Switch: a switch used to isolate a bathroom extractor fan - usually placed outside of the bathroom.
Intermediate Switch: allows a single light to be switched on/off from multiple locations - often used in hallways and landings.

Shaver Socket: designed for plugging in electrical shavers.
Telephone Socket: designed for plugging in telephone wires.
TV Socket: designed for plugging in TV wires.
Sky Plus Socket: designed for plugging in Sky Plus wires.

Blank plate: used to safely cover unwanted sockets/switches.
