About Satin Marine SS
From The Anvil's Satin Marine 316 Stainless Steel products are ideal for those looking for a hardwearing, low sheen finish. It's cool tones and lightly brushed surface make it distinctly contemporary, and work best when paired with lighter tones and subtle textures complementing clean, modern aesthetics.
Manufactured with high concentrations of chromium and nickel, Satin Marine Stainless Steel is grade 316 and offers extremely resilient, corrosion resistant properties, exceeding 1,000+ hours salt testing. This finish is an excellent choice for coastal locations and highly polluted environments.

Caring for Satin Marine SS
An extremely hardwearing finish which offers exceptional protection against corrosion. Having surpassed 1,000+ hours salt testing, it's an excellent choice for use in salt rich, or heavily polluted environments.
Despite the natural durability of this finish, we would still recommend washing your product using a soft, clean cloth and mild soapy water from time-to-time to reduce unnecessary pollutants building up on the products surface. Please ensure all products are dried immediately with a clean, soft cloth after any cleaning.
Over time, stainless steel can appear to tarnish. This is due to surface particulate deposits rather than the stainless steel itself. Specialist stainless steel cleaning products such as From The Anvil's 'Stainless Steel Cleaner Kit' (33030) are available to remove tarnishing and nylon abrasive pads can aid in their use, being careful to use them in the direction of the grain.
Carbon steel wool is reactive and should never be used on stainless steel.
To increase the mechanical life expectancy of your products, we recommend regular oiling of all moving parts using ‘3-in-1 Oil’ (92337). This process is also highly recommended during initial installation.

Environmental Conditions
Whilst all finishes will age gradually certain environmental factors will increase the rate at which this occurs. We always encourage following our maintenance guidelines to ensure your products stay looking their best.
However, in coastal or harsher environmental property locations we would recommend the following finishes.
- Satin Marine SS (316)
- Polished Marine SS (316)
- Aged Brass
- Polished Brass
Acetylated Wood
Acetylated wood is the technical term for timber which has undergone chemical modification to produce a more dimensionally stable, longer lasting base material, Accoya is the most well know of these woods.
All our ironmongery is supplied with stainless steel hardware as standard to ensure suitability for use with acetylated wood. All finishes which are listed as suitable for external use can be fitted providing the door or window has been fully painted. If unfinished wood is being used, then stainless steel or brass should be selected.
Wet Trades
This includes plasters, painter and decorators as well as any other trades which may affect the atmospheric conditions in the room. When dealing with these trades we recommend ensuring the room is fully cured & dry before fitting our ironmongery to ensure there are no harmful substances in the environment to impact on the longevity of the hardware.
Stainless Steel
If required, we can produce many of our mild steel base finishes on a stainless steel base which does ensure compatibility with harsh
environments or acetylated wood.
