Ledge and brace doors are too thin for standard butt hinges. We recommend using T hinges or strap hinges. These are excellent to weight-bearing but they also accentuate the rustic look of ledge and brace doors.
The ideal T hinges will span about two thirds of the width of the door to provide the most secure fit. Coordinate your T hinges with your thumblatches for a cohesive look.
For ledge and brace doors, we recommend using T hinges or strap hinges to secure the door in place.
A thumblatch is the most traditional choice of handle, and can be locked when used alongside a staple pin/screw-on staple pin.
To finish the look, add some decorative handmade nails to the wooden door panels.
Firstly, you’ll need to measure the thickness of your door.
Our Medium thumblatches work with doors up to a thickness of 55mm, and our XL versions are suitable for doors up to 75mm thick, due to the length of their thumb bar.
Once you’ve figured out what size you need, you can choose the finish and style. Our Bean thumblatches are designed to match our Penny End T hinges, and our Gothic thumblatches are designed to match out Arrow Head T hinges.
